FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Toy Project interactive wall

What is the purpose of this project?

Our goal is to demystify the creation process of electronic music, showcasing its complexity and detail. For artists, this offers a unique phygital (physical + digital) channel to showcase their talent to new audiences, breaking free from traditional marketing constraints like unread email campaigns, costly social media advertising, and declining press impact.

Where will be the first permanent installation?

Le Badaboum (Paris, France) expressed is interest very early in the genesis of the project. As one of the leading electronic music venues in Europe, it was a logical choice for the first installation.

What does the installation look like?

For the time being, the visual content regarding the project until launch date remains not public. Picture a 4x3 meters wall featuring a giant display with custom music controllers sprinkled on it. This project merges the tactile feel of analog music production with modern technology, allowing audience interaction through track selection and modification of parameters such as volume and effects. The wall is situated in a salon adjacent to the main room, creating communal experiences around electronic music for up to 15 people at a time.

What are the technical requirements for artists wanting to feature their tracks?

The submission of a track requires a zip archive containing 4 to 6 multi-stem tracks with .wav format audio, 16-bit encoding, and 48kHz sampling rate, with -1dB on all tracks. MIDI information drives visual animations, with specific guidelines for melody, bass, chords, and drum machine scores to ensure compatibility with our visual display system.

When will be the release date?

The project will be available to the public in summer 2024 and earlier this year for professional to review the experience at our development lab in Paris. We are planning to start on March, Thursday private jam session in small groups of professionals, for those who are interested in.

How many tracks can I promote, and how does the system foster new artist discovery?

Each artist can feature up to six tracks on the system. This limitation is designed to encourage audience exploration of new artists. When not actively being interacted with, the system will reset and randomly select tracks from different artists, ensuring all featured musicians receive exposure.

How does the visual component work, and how does it engage the audience?

The visual animations, driven by MIDI data, are designed to captivate the audience and encourage interaction and content creation for social media. The system prominently displays the artist's name during their track playback and includes a QR code module for audience members to easily access the artist's social media and music links, fostering direct fan engagement and discovery.

Who is paying for all of this?

Brands and medias have been the ones involved in making the project commercially viable up to this date. We thank them for their support.

What support is available for artists during the submission process?

We understand that preparing your tracks for this unique system might require some adjustments. Our team is ready to assist you in simplifying MIDI files or addressing any technical questions. A session to export your tracks should take 15 to 20 minutes per track, but we're here to help through video conferencing if needed.
